Planning Station
A planning station on a vessel is a dedicated area or console used for voyage planning and monitoring, typically integrated with navigation systems like ECDIS, radar, and communication equipment. It allows officers to prepare routes, check charts, update navigational data, and review safety parameters before and during a voyage. The station usually includes a large display for electronic charts, input devices for route editing, and connectivity to sensors such as GPS, AIS, and echo sounders. It is designed for ergonomic use, ensuring that navigators can efficiently manage tasks like route optimization, compliance checks, and hazard identification. Planning stations are often located near the bridge or in a chart room, providing a centralized point for navigation management and decision-making.
