Navigation Lights
Navigation lights are specialized lights installed on vessels to indicate their position, status, and direction of movement, ensuring safe navigation and preventing collisions at sea. These lights follow international regulations set by the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs). Common types include the masthead light, which is white and positioned forward on the vessel’s centerline; sidelights, which are red on the port side and green on the starboard side; and the stern light, which is white and placed at the rear. Additional lights such as towing lights, all-round lights, and anchor lights are used depending on the vessel’s activity and size. Each light has specific visibility ranges and angles to ensure other vessels can accurately interpret the ship’s course and status, making navigation lights a critical component of maritime safety.
