Chart Updating

Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) must be kept up to date for safe navigation and compliance with SOLAS. Traditionally, updates were applied manually using CDs or USB drives, which was time-consuming and prone to errors. Modern systems like Furuno Gate-1 automate this process by downloading chart updates and permit files directly via satellite or internet connections. Gate-1 checks for new UKHO and PRIMAR chart data weekly and ensures secure delivery using encrypted channels. This automation reduces crew workload, eliminates physical media, and ensures charts are updated within hours instead of weeks, improving safety and compliance.

Furuno Gate-1

Gate-1 is an automatic chart update system designed to keep ECDIS units up to date with the latest UKHO and PRIMAR chart data and permit files. It eliminates the need for physical media like USB sticks or DVDs by using the vessel’s existing communication systems, including low-bandwidth satellite links, to download updates securely and reliably. Gate-1 operates even under harsh conditions with slow or unstable connections, making it ideal for global maritime operations.
