EPIRB

An EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) is a safety device used on boats and ships to send a distress signal in emergencies. When activated, either manually or automatically if it is submerged, it transmits a signal to satellites that includes the vessel’s identification and location. This information is sent to search and rescue authorities so they can quickly respond and find the vessel or survivors. EPIRBs are required on most commercial vessels and strongly recommended for recreational boats because they provide a critical way to call for help when other communication systems fail.
